Mzansi Super League – Best MSL Betting Sites and Tips

On this page

The Mzansi Super League is the leading T20 tournament in South Africa – and one of the newest to the global T20 calendar. The MSL only started in 2018, as a revamped version of what was originally meant to be Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) Global T20 League offering. However, that was scrapped before it launched and franchises remained the property of Cricket South Africa rather than being sold to private investors, as is the case in several other T20 tournaments around the world such as the Indian Premier League.

Betting on the MSL is popular with fans who are new to cricket betting in general, as there isn’t a long tournament history and lengthy head-to-head track records to catch up on. The best online bookmakers in India offer MSL markets, while we have free MSL cricket betting tips predictions and live odds and latest news from the competition.

Best Betting Sites for the Mzansi Super League

The best betting sites for Indian residents keen to place a wager or two on the MSL will offer payments and withdrawals in rupees. They have some of the best banking methods, including Skrill, Neteller, MuchBetter, ecoPayz and even Bitcoin for betting. Being able to make cricket bets in rupees is really handy for those who live in India, especially for tournaments that are hosted elsewhere around the world. Be sure to do some research before committing to one or the other Indian cricket bookmaker, as there is good competition out there. Some offer loyalty bonuses, while others have welcome offers for new customers.

The best cricket betting apps are handy in this day and age, as well. Bettors don’t want to be limited by functionality and navigation that only works on desktop view. Good load speed, markets that are easy to access, simple navigation and straightforward sign-up processes are key to any good Indian betting website or app.

Betting on the MSL – Everything You Need To Know

The Mzansi Super League comprises six franchises and generally takes place toward the end of the year, but unlike Australia’s Big Bash League, not into the new year. It is one of the shorter tournaments on the global calendar, as it doesn’t last a month – and is sometimes as short as three weeks. It has had to compete for calendar space with the Bangladesh Premier League and BBL, with stars offering jetting into the MSL for a bit before heading off to contractual obligations in the BPL  and BBL. This can really see a lot of movement in the individual playing markets. For instance, Chris Gayle might be offered to be top run-scorer for the Jozi Stars for the first half of the tournament, before a local talent such as Reeza Hendricks is the lead market in the same category after Gayle’s exit to the BBL.

Mzansi Super League (MSL) Teams

Names like the Stellenbosch Kings, Benoni Zalmi, Cape Town Knight Riders, Durban Qalandars and Pretoria Mavericks were canned when the Global T20 Canada didn’t get off the ground. Those privatised franchises have since given way to teams owned by Cricket South Africa (CSA). The current version of the Mzansi League has six franchises.

Latest Mzansi Super League Odds

If it’s long odds for an outright tournament win you are after, then teams like the Durban Heat and Nelson Mandela Bay Giants could offer the best value, especially if their spinners succeed in slowish conditions in Port Elizabeth. The Heat have never finished among the top three and the Giants have not reached a final. For shorter odds, runners-up in 2018 and 2019, respectively, the Cape Town Blitz and Tshwane Spartans are good MSL season bets. The Paarl team won the tournament in 2019 and will be among the tournament favourites again. The Jozi Stars are a risky bet, as they won the tournament convincingly the first time before coming stone last in the MSL points table the second time.

The fact that Dane Vilas moved from the Stars to the Heat for MSL 2019 certainly hampered the Johannesburg team and empowered the Durban team. A Tshwane Spartans XI with AB de Villiers in it is certainly stronger than one without him. Sri Lanka all-rounder Isuru Udana was a huge asset, with bat and ball, during the Paarl team’s run to the title in 2019. This sort of historical info, combined with the latest squad and team news, will really help your MSL betting.

Parimatch Welcome Offer in India – 8000 INR

Keen to bet on the MSL from India? Register for a new account and tick the box “activate deposit bonus”. This will ensure you are eligible for the welcome offer. Then, simply make a deposit of at least 300 INR via any of the available banking methods. There are no restricted payment methods as you may find with other betting sites. The amount available is directly related to the first deposit so it’s worth considering before adding funds to your account for the first time. The promotional funds will be added to your account automatically within 24 hours.

Then those funds need to be wagered a minimum of 10 times on bets with odds of at least 1.50. Only sports bets count towards this process, not casino activity. This must be completed within seven days of registration and needs to include five or more bets. Bets that are cashed out will not count toward the bonus rollover either. If the bonus conditions are satisfied within seven days, you will be able to withdraw whatever funds are available in your account.

How does the MSL Draft Work?

The selection of players for the Mzansi Super League operates via a draft. It does not work on an auction, like in the Indian Premier League. Players are priced per category, with international marquee players and local marquee players included. Each of the franchises picks a player from a predetermined pool per round. Several rounds take place before the squads are full. The squads have to feature some rookies (players under a certain age). It is not a tournament rule, but each franchise is strongly encouraged to include black African players – to be in line with South Africa’s longstanding political transformation targets.

Mzansi Super League – Famous Players

The Mzansi Super League prides itself on being home to some of the best South African cricketers. From Dale Steyn, Tabraiz Shamsi and Quinton de Kock to Henry Davids,  Lungi Ngidi and Kagiso Rabada, contemporary and yesteryear Proteas have played in the MSL. It has also birthed the international careers of many South Africans, too, including Janneman Malan. The international ambitions of others, too, have kept going via the MSL. Reeza Hendricks is one such example. In and out of the Proteas ODI and T20I XIs over the years, he has kept knocking at the national selectors’ door with good performances in the MSL. South Africa’s premier Twenty20 tournament has also attracted some of its Kolpak cricketers, such as Kyle Abbott, Duanne Olivier and Rilee Rossouw, who have pursued careers in England instead of their country of birth.

Overseas players in the MSL

The Mzansi Super League struggled to attract international stars at first, mainly because the global exchange rate often sees the South African rand struggle against the US dollar and British pound. However, many big names from many countries have come and gone through the MSL.
