Safety and Security Features at LeoVegas
When registering your details, depositing and withdrawing, and placing bets with an online betting site, you need to know that your information and money are safe. Our priority is to ensure we only recommend a bookie that’s reputable and trustworthy.
There are certain factors that we look at when reviewing a bookmaker. In this LeoVegas review, we consider the following:
- How old or new the bookie is.
- Does it hold a valid gaming licence?
- Has it won any awards or ever been fined?
- Relevant responsible gaming measures.
- Banking and site security.
LeoVegas Have Been in Business Since 2012
LeoVegas started its journey in Sweden in 2012, making it a relatively new bookie. We’re surprised how it’s managed to establish itself as one of the most popular betting sites in such a short space of time, though. Their sports betting site was launched in May 2016. Since then they’ve made a big impression around the world.
Despite being a Swedish bookmaker, it’s spread into many regions and is now a strong player in the Indian betting sector. Despite not being around that long, we’re not put off by this.
LeoVegas Licensing is Excellent News for Betting on Cricket in India
If a bookmaker doesn’t have a registered gaming licence, we don’t recommend it — it’s that simple!
We’re happy to say that LeoVegas Gaming plc is registered with one of the most prominent gaming establishments on the planet — the Malta Gaming Authority. Malta is a hub of iGaming, and so this is a strong positive that the bookie is registered there. This also means that you have an extra layer of protection if there’s a dispute with the betting site.
In addition to being registered in Malta and Nordic countries such as their native Sweden, LeoVegas is also registered with:
This is a great sign that LeoVegas can be trusted as a betting site around the world. Getting licences from so many regulators means they have to prove they can be trusted again and again. You can expect a great experience with LeoVegas in India and anywhere else in the world.
LeoVegas are an award-winning bookmaker
At the time of writing, we’re aware of the following awards for LeoVegas:
- “Mobile Casino of the Year” — International Gaming Awards, 2019.
- “Brand of the Year” — EGR Marketing and Innovation Awards, 2018.
- “Operator of the Year” — EGR Nordics Awards, 2018.
- “Online Casino Operator of the Year” — International Gaming Awards, 2017.
- Mobile Operator of the Year” — EGR Nordic Awards, 2016.
This is an impressive list of awards after only being in operation for a short space of time!
Self-Exclusion and Responsible Gaming at LeoVegas
We’re paying extra attention to LeoVegas’ responsible gaming section due to the 2018 fine. In its Help Center, there’s an entire section dedicated to this.
Firstly, it recommends you use two options to restrict your access to gaming sites, with tips and advice on using each of them:
It also has a section on advising how to close your account permanently. Once this is done, you won’t be able to reopen it. We also really like that there’s a self-assessment test you can take, which is free anonymous. The intention of this is to get results on whether you may need to self-exclude or stop iGaming altogether.
You’re also able to advise LeoVegas’ customer service department if you feel someone you know has an addiction, which is nice to see.
Stake limiting is a possibility with a LeoVegas, and this is a common inclusion for most sites. Although restrictions can be lifted, you need to wait 24 hours to do this. The different limit areas are on:
- Session lengths.
- Time alerts.
If you don’t find that these limits are enough, you can go one step further and self-exclude for various lengths of time:
- 1 day.
- 1 week.
- 4 weeks.
- 6 weeks.
- 6 months.
These can be withdrawn at any time but will take 7 days to be processed — it’s good that this isn’t an instant reversal; otherwise, it would negate the positive side to self-exclusion.
One final note is that LeoVegas has a separate site dedicated entirely to responsible gaming — LeoSafePlay. This is excellent to see and is a massive positive for the popular betting site.
LeoVegas’ Banking and Site Security Information – You’re in Good Hands
All accounts first need to be verified, which is an important security step. Documentation needs to include:
- Your picture.
- Date of birth.
- Country of birth.
- Expiry date.
Such verification is a requirement by the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA). All documents sent in are held on an encrypted server, so the contained information is perfectly safe and secure.
We were unable to obtain further information in terms of firewall protection, SLL, and further encryption methods. However, since LeoVegas is a high-profile bookmaker, we’re sure that adequate protocols are in place, especially due to being regulated by the MGA and the UK Gambling Commission.
