Plan Your T20 Cricket Betting – a Tournament Every Month

T20 is becoming increasingly popular. With it, comes T20 tournaments such as the Everest Premier League, Euro T20 Slam, Hong Kong T20 Blitz and others.

The IPL, CPL, BBL and PSL are the main T20 tournaments among some smaller ones. This handy table can help you plan which T20 tournaments to bet on.

Top 9 T20 Leagues Schedule

League Time of year
Pakistan Super League (Pakistan) February-March
Indian Premier League (India) April-May
T20 Blast (England) May-July
Global T20 Canada (Canada) July-August
Caribbean Premier League (West Indies) August-September
Mzansi Super League (South Africa) November-December
Bangladesh Premier League (Bangladesh) December-January
Super Smash (New Zealand) December-January
Big Bash League (Australia) December-January

The dates change a bit each year, but generally, the tournament takes place over the same months each time. As you can see, there is sometimes overlap.

Some tournaments are longer than others. But there is never a month without a tournament on the go and plenty of opportunities to bet on T20 cricket.

How Cricket Tournaments Work

The formats for cricket tournaments differ from one to another. The formats depend on the number of teams involved, whether the teams are playing limited-overs or first-class cricket, the length of the tournament and other factors.

Domestic T20 Tournaments

Twenty20 tournaments like the IPL, BBL, PSL and MSL generally have teams play each other – home and away – in a round-robin format. The top four teams then go into the playoffs.

This used to be the semi-finals, but more recently T20 tournaments have adopted a playoffs stage that includes eliminators and qualifier fixtures.

This effectively gives the team that finished at the top of the table after the round-robin stage a more straightforward chance of reaching the final than the other teams in the top four.

T20 World Cup

Previously known as the World Twenty20, the next T20 World Cup will feature 16 teams in four groups.

This will be reduced to 12 after the top two teams in group A and B join the eight teams to have already qualified for the Super 12. There will then be two semi-finals and a final, with no third-place playoff between the losing semi-finalists.

T20 World Cup final Winners and Losers

Sri Lanka have played in half of the six finals, winning one. The West Indies are two-time T20 World Cup champions.

Year Winner Runners-up
2007 India Pakistan
2009 Pakistan Sri Lanka
2010 England Australia
2012 West Indies Sri Lanka
2014 Sri Lanka India
2016 West Indies England

Cricket World Cup

The Cricket World Cup happens every four years and has had several formats every for years. More recently, it has reverted to the format of 1992.

There are no groups or pools. Each team plays each other once. The top four progress to the semi-finals and the top two to the final. There is no third-place playoff. Previously, the Cricket World Cup included more Associate nations.

Cricket World Cup final winners and losers

England are the reigning champions. They claimed their maiden World Cup title in 2019. Australia have won the Cricket World Cup five times.

Year Winner Runners-up
1975 West Indies Australia
1979 West Indies England
1983 India West Indies
1987 Australia England
1992 Pakistan England
1996 Sri Lanka Australia
1999 Australia Pakistan
2003 Australia India
2007 Australia Sri Lanka
2011 India Sri Lanka
2015 Australia New Zealand
2019 England New Zealand

The Ashes

The Ashes is among cricket’s old rivalries and is contested between England and Australia. They take turns, approximately every two years, to host each other.

While other Test series largely take place over two, three or four matches, the Ashes is always contested over five matches. If the series is drawn, the team that won the previous Ashes series retains the Ashes title and coveted urn.

Ranji Trophy

Teams play each other in a round-robin format with matches scheduled for four days. This takes a relatively long time, as there are 38 teams in the Ranji Trophy.

The top divisions (Elite Group A and B) provide five of the quarter-finalists, two come from Elite Group C with the final team taken from the lower-ranked Plate Group.

Once the quarter-finals of the tournament get underway, games are extended to five days if required. If the final ends in a draw, the team who scored the most first-innings runs is awarded the Ranji Trophy title.

Vijay Hazare Trophy

Mirroring the format of the Ranji Trophy, teams are initially divided into four leagues. Elite Groups A and B are combined into one table, with the best five teams progressing to the quarter-finals.

The leading two sides from Elite Group C and the top team from the Plate group also make the last eight.

Best Apps for Betting on Cricket Tournaments

There are often cricket apps designed for a specific tournament such as the IPL or CPL. These don’t always come with specific betting features, though.

Thankfully, many of the best cricket betting websites come with a cricket betting app – or at the very least a mobile cricket website. Finding the best betting apps for android in India is getting more popular.

We have downloaded and reviewed several cricket betting apps. You can find out why one is better than the other and see which are available on Android or iOS – or both.

Betting on cricket with a mobile app has never been more readily available.

World Test Championship – A New Era For The Five-Day Game

The World Test Championship acts in the same way as the World Cups do for the limited-overs formats of cricket. However, there are a few changes. One of these is that the International Cricket Council ranks Test teams based on their performance, weighting some results over others.

Running until 2021, nine Test-playing nations will play each other across 72 matches. Each team will play six of the possible eight opponents over the course of the competition.

A series will consist of between two and five Tests. Points will then be awarded based on the results and that forms the basis for a league table.

The top two teams after all the matches have been completed will play in a final Test at Lord’s in June 2021.

How Points are allocated in World Test Championship

No points are allocated for a defeat.

Matches in Series Points for Win Points for Tie Points for draw
2 60 30 20
3 40 20 13
4 30 15 10
5 24 12 8
