Mumbai Indians v Chennai Super Kings – Match Preview

The Mumbai Indians have won all of their last five IPL matches against the Chennai Super Kings.

Since 2015, Mumbai have actually won eight of their 10 fixtures with the Super Kings.

When they last met in the UAE in 2014, though, Chennai won on all three occasions.

Where: Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi

When: Saturday, 19 September 2020

Start time: 14:00 GMT (19:30 IST)

Pitch conditions: The last 10 T20Is played at this venue has seen an even split of five wins each for the team batting first and second. Conditions in the gulf are not that different to those experienced on the sub-continent. They might be a bit dryer and therefore offer the spinners a bit more bit. A total of around 170, before the pitch starts to tire for the rest of the tournament, should be competitive.

Weather conditions: The weather should start to cool as we head into this evening match, but is forecast to have been in the high 30 degrees celsius during the day. No rain has been predicted for Saturday, 19 September 2020. The hot weather could bake the pitch a bit, which could make for even better batting prospects.

Mumbai Indians v Chennai Super Kings – Team News

First and foremost, it’s worth noting three superstars are not in this match – or the IPL 2020 at all. Mumbai have lost Lasith Malinga, while Chennai are without Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh.

All three have withdrawn their participation due to personal reasons. But that leaves opportunity for others to step into the breach.

Mumbai will again be captained by Rohit Sharma and have added Australian Chris Lynn to their squad. But he wasn’t in great form in the Caribbean Premier League recently.

Australian seamer James Pattinson has joined Mumbai as a replacement for Malinga.

Their crop of talented locals is led by Ishan Kishan, Aditya Tare, Jayant Yadav and other.

Raina’s exit leaves plenty more onus on Ambati Rayudu, Murali Vijay and Kedar Jadhav.

Without Harbhajan, fellow spinners Karn Sharma, Piyush Chawla and Ravindra Jadeja have a lot more to do alongside Imran Tahir.

Ruturaj Gaikwad has been ruled out of this match for Chennai.

Mumbai Indians v Chennai Super Kings – Betting Tips and Prediction

You’ve seen the outright odds for this match. Now, read these three IPL match betting tips. They are based on good odds from the best Indian betting websites.

Choose Chennai to Have the Top Bowler

Even without Harbhajan around, Chennai look to have a formidable bowling attack. They’re at longer odds than Mumbai to have the top bowler, but well worth betting on Parimatch’s 1.92.

With Tahir, Santner and Bravo warmed up after the CPL, and Hazlewood, Ngidi and others raring to go, this looks a good bet.

Pick Mumbai to Have the Top Batsman

From Rohit and Quinton de Kock to Sherfane Rutherford, Kieron Pollard and others, Mumbai are blessed with plenty of excellent T20 batsman.

Dafabet India have Mumbai priced at 1.78 to have the top batsman in this match ahead of Chennai. That’ll take a big effort against an opposition order spearheaded by Dhoni, du Plessis and more, but we think they’re good for it.

Take an Early Shot at a Century Being Scored

There have been almost 50 centuries in 12 editions of the IPL. We are backing an early ton in the 13th edition.

Watson and Vjiay have IPL tons for Chennai. Rohit has done it for Mumbai. They, or others, could comfortably ton up in the first match amid conditions primed for a big score.

Take a longer shot at a century being scored in the tournament opener at 8.2 with Dafabet India.

Refer to our round-up of best bets before the match begins.
