Who are Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Notable Overseas Cricketers?
Sunrisers Hyderabad have had an array of brilliant international and domestic cricketers pull on the orange and black jersey in a match since they were formed.
Australian top-order batman David Warner has been one of the most successful batmen in the IPL. Warner has played for Sunrisers Hyderabad since 2014 and only missed the 2018 campaign when stepping down as captain due to his suspension for ball tampering when in action for Australia in South Africa. He holds the IPL record for the most runs by an overseas batsman and most half centuries.
Warner also holds the highest individual score by a captain with 126. He has won the Orange Cap three times. Warner captained Sunrisers to their only title success when leading the side in 2016. The left-hand bat is also at the top of the tree for many individual club records. He the most runs for Sunrisers Hyderabad with 3,271 from 71 innings. Warner also has the highest individual score for the club with 126 from 59 balls and has the most fifties next to his name with 34 from 71 innings.
New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson first singed for SRH in 2015 and helped them win the IPL in 2016. He cost them $96,500 and was retained in the IPL Auction for the 2018 campaign for $460,500.
Williamson took over the captaincy of the team in 2018 due to David Warner being banned due to the Australian ball-tampering controversy. Under his leadership, he led the side to the final where they lost out to Chennai Super Kings. A fine 2018 campaign also saw Williamson awarded the coveted Orange Cap for scoring the most runs that season with 735. The right-hand bat currently sits third in the rankings for most runs for Sunrisers Hyderabad behind David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan.
Portuguese-born Australian all-rounder Moises Henriques played for SRH between 2014 and 2017 and sits fourth in the all-time run-scorer table for the club.
Henriques was another key member of the IPL-winning side of 2016. He has 755 runs in 42 innings and his highest score is 74 not out. He is also seventh in the all-time club wicket-taker list with 28 wickets from the 42 innings he played.
Young Afghanistan cricketer Rashid Khan has been quick to make his mark on the IPL. Despite being aged just 21 he boasts the most Test, T20I and ODI wickets for Afghanistan.
Rashid Khan was bought by SRH in 2017 and took two wickets on debut on the way to becoming the tournament’s sixth-highest wicket-taker that year. The right-arm, leg-break bowler now lies in second place for the most wickets for the club on 55 from 46 innings. Only Bhuvneswar Kumar has more with 109 in 86.
The England wicket-keeper/batsman made an instant impact in the Indian Premier League when linking up with Sunrisers Hyderabad for the IPL 2019.
He quickly raced to second in the rankings for the highest individual player score in a match. He achieved the accolade when smashing 114 from 56 balls against Royal Challengers Bangalore in March 2019. Bairstow also at top of the highest average charts with 55.26 from his 10 games last season. He also tops the highest strike rate table with 157.24 from the 283 balls he faced.
