Betting on Middlesex

Middlesex have won England’s domestic T20 competition on one occasion so far. They lifted the trophy back in 2008 when the tournament was still known as the T20 Cup. The team, part of Middlesex County Cricket Club, used to be known as the Crusaders and then the Panthers in the limited-over format but are now simply Middlesex in the T20 Blast. They play most home games at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.

That 2008 final win over Kent at the Rose Bowl was a first major title for the club in 15 years but they have not followed that up or even reached the final since. That recent lack of success has to be considered when looking to bet on Middlesex in the T20 Blast. However, they are captained in the Blast by England’s limited-overs skipper Eoin Morgan and will be looking to build on their quarter-final exit in 2019. New arrivals in the form of Australians Mitchell Marsh and Peter Handscomb give them an outside chance.

Middlesex showed good improvement under new coach Stuart Law last season on the way to the quarter-finals after progress from the South Group of the competition. Looking into if they have the capabilities to build on that will be key to assessing their chances this season, especially with how their squad shapes up.

Can the Middlesex win the T20 Blast?

Middlesex CCC are going through a transitional period at present after the departures of Dawid Malan and Paul Sterling. Their batting department is lighter due to those changes and with South Africa star AB de Villiers not returning. The arrivals of Handscomb and Marsh bolster their options in the T20 Blast and they could be a force on a game-by-game basis.

They are certainly capable of claiming a few big wins when the season gets back underway. However, they would still have to be considered big outsiders and their chances could come down to how the players gel under Morgan’s guidance. If they show good signs early on then natural progression could see them get out of the group stages.

Middlesex Blast Squad for 2020

All the news from the Blast will be available in the build-up to the new campaign as well as how Middlesex’s hopes are reflected in their odds. Eoin Morgan will again have a huge role to play if the team is to better last season. Dawid Malan, who is now at Yorkshire, is a huge loss for the team. He is the club’s top run-scorer in T20 cricket and also topped the 2019 charts. The second-highest run-maker in 2019 was AB de Villiers but he also won’t be back. Behind that duo came Morgan, so his batting, as well as his captaincy, will be vital this time around.

Batsman Stephen Eskinazi and bowlers Steve Finn and Toby Rowland-Jones will also be key. Finn and Rowland-Jones made the Blast’s top 10 wicket-taker list last term and they will need to fire again. The addition of Mujeeb Ur Rahman for the Blast campaign gives them another option to turn to.
