Who are Karachi Kings’ Most Notable Cricketers?
Karachi Kings have had some big names play for them over the years that have offered their fans plenty of entertainment in the PSL. The likes of Eoin Morgan, Chris Gayle, Kumar Sangakkara, Shoaib Malik, Colin Ingram and Kieron Pollard are among their most notable cricketers to pull on the blue strip. Brilliant domestic talents like Babar Azam, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Amir, Sohail Khan, Usman Khan and Usama Mir have also starred.
KK’s highest run-scorer is Pakistan star Babar Azam. He has smashed 1,028 runs in 32 innings from 2017 to the current campaign. Mohammed Amir is the franchise’s top wicket-taker with 39 wickets in 37 matches. Both men can be backed to add to those stats when betting on the Kings this season.
Babar Azam
The talented Pakistan batsman is the captain of his country’s T20 side but plays in all formats. He has quickly risen in the ranks to be rated as one of the best T20I players in the world since making his debut against England in 2016.
Babar captained Pakistan’s under-19s to World Cup success in 2012. He has also continued to shine in ODIs and has broken a host of national records. Azam became the fastest batsman for Pakistan to reach 3,000 ODI runs. He did it in just 68 innings and took the title when playing against New Zealand in the World Cup in June 2019. In the same clash, he also bagged his 10th one-day ton and became the first middle-order player to hit a World Cup century in 32 years. The 2019 World Cup also saw him overtake Javed Miandad’s record for the most runs by a Pakistan batsman during a single World Cup campaign.
Babar initially played for Islamabad United in the first year of the Pakistan Super League but saw his tournament halted through injury. H e was bought by KK from Islamabad in 2017 and has been with them ever since. He will again feature for them in 2020 and is now the team’s vice-captain.
Mohammad Amir
Amir is Karachi’s top wicket-taker with 39 wickets in 37 matches to his name. The left-arm pace bowler burst onto the international stage at a young age when playing for Pakistan in the 2009 T20 World Cup. He was then handed a five-year ban after admitting his part in spot-fixing. However, he made his comeback with the national side and is making his mark domestically too.
Amir has retired from international Test cricket but continues to represent Pakistan in the white-ball forms of the game. He has played for the Kings since 2016 and continues to lead their bowling attack.
Imad Wasim
Wasim is the current captain of the Karachi Kings in the PSL and plays for Pakistan in all forms of the game. He was born in Wales but his parents returned to Pakistan when he was still very young.
The talented all-rounder played at the under-19 World Cup in 2006 before rising to the senior side in 2015. He captained Pakistan’s ODI side in March 2019 and has been with KK since 2016. Wasim is also featured among the franchise’s top 10 run-scorers and wicket-takers.
Ravi Bopara
Batting all-rounder Ravi Bopara made a big impact for the Karachi Kings. He played for them in their very first season in the Pakistan Super League and was also handed the captaincy mid-way through that inaugural campaign. That came after Shoaib Malik stepped down from the role.
The England cricketer was named the player of the tournament in 2016 after making 329 runs and taking 11 wickets in nine matches for KK. Bopara is Karachi’s third-highest run-scorer with 575 runs in 28 innins between 2016 and 2019.
