Betting on Karachi Kings

Betting on the Karachi Kings in the PSL

Karachi Kings were founded in 2015 to take part in the first Pakistan Super League tournament in 2016. They play their games at the National Stadium in Karachi and have had some big named players in their ranks. Despite that, KK have never won the PSL title and have never finished better than third place after making the play-offs in each campaign so far.

A final spot always seems to allude them. This was highlighted in 2018 when they came second in the first phase but failed to take their two chances to make the final. Even the captaincies of Kumar Sangakkara, Shoaib Malik and Eoin Morgan couldn’t help them to PSL glory.  This is something that should be considered when betting on Karachi in the Pakistan Super League with the top betting sites in India.

How to Bet on Karachi Kings in the PSL

Karachi Kings are one of the favourites to win the Pakistan Super League in betting markets for 2020. Many believe this could be the team’s year to finally land their first title. They will again do battle with rivals Lahore Qalandars, Islamabad United, Quetta Gladiators, Peshawar Zalmi and Mulan Sultans.

KK will once more be led by Imad Wasim this season and have welcomed England’s Alex Hales and Pakistani Sharjeel Khan to the side. Losing Colin Ingram and Liam Livingston is a blow but the arrival of Alex Hales at the top of the order could prove decisive. With skipper Imad and star man Amir leading the bowling attack, Karachi could have the right balance. England duo Liam Plunkett and Chris Jordan give them even more options.

Cricket fans who are interested in having a bet on the Kings should consider opening an online betting account. Bookmakers that accept Indian customers will give you the opportunity to bet and withdraw in Rupees on a wide array of cricket markets from around the world. You can also bet on live games throughout the season.

Karachi Kings Team History

KK’s team history has been one of unrealised potential from the very first campaign. Despite winning their very first PSL match, they soon faded as the 2016 tournament progressed. They still qualified for the play-offs thanks to a better head-to-head record than Lahore Qalanders. England’s Ravi Bopara replaced Shoaib Malik as captain before their qualifier match but that still wasn’t enough to stop them bowing out.

In 2017, they bolstered their squad with even more star names. In came Babar Azam, Kumar Sangakkara and West Indies and IPL powerhouse Chris Gayle. Other additions were Kieron Pollard, Mahela Jayawardena and Ryan McLaren. Again they failed to reach the finals and once more bowed out in the play-offs.

The previous two seasons have also followed a similar pattern. More big-name arrivals, more expectations, but more play-off disappointment.

Karachi Kings – Team Ownership

The franchise representing Karachi was sold to the ARY Media Group in 2015 for $26million over a 10-year contract. That made KK the most expensive franchise in the PSL. That record stood until 2017 when the Multan Sultans were bought for $41.6million.

Who are Karachi Kings’ Most Notable Cricketers?

Karachi Kings have had some big names play for them over the years that have offered their fans plenty of entertainment in the PSL. The likes of Eoin Morgan, Chris Gayle, Kumar Sangakkara, Shoaib Malik, Colin Ingram and Kieron Pollard are among their most notable cricketers to pull on the blue strip. Brilliant domestic talents like Babar Azam, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Amir, Sohail Khan, Usman Khan and Usama Mir have also starred.

KK’s highest run-scorer is Pakistan star Babar Azam. He has smashed 1,028 runs in 32 innings from 2017 to the current campaign. Mohammed Amir is the franchise’s top wicket-taker with 39 wickets in 37 matches. Both men can be backed to add to those stats when betting on the Kings this season.

Babar Azam

The talented Pakistan batsman is the captain of his country’s T20 side but plays in all formats. He has quickly risen in the ranks to be rated as one of the best T20I players in the world since making his debut against England in 2016.

Babar captained Pakistan’s under-19s to World Cup success in 2012.  He has also continued to shine in ODIs and has broken a host of national records. Azam became the fastest batsman for Pakistan to reach 3,000 ODI runs. He did it in just 68 innings and took the title when playing against New Zealand in the World Cup in June 2019. In the same clash, he also bagged his 10th one-day ton and became the first middle-order player to hit a World Cup century in 32 years. The 2019 World Cup also saw him overtake Javed Miandad’s record for the most runs by a Pakistan batsman during a single World Cup campaign.

Babar initially played for Islamabad United in the first year of the Pakistan Super League but saw his tournament halted through injury. H e was bought by KK from Islamabad in 2017 and has been with them ever since. He will again feature for them in 2020 and is now the team’s vice-captain.

Mohammad Amir

Amir is Karachi’s top wicket-taker with 39 wickets in 37 matches to his name. The left-arm pace bowler burst onto the international stage at a young age when playing for Pakistan in the 2009 T20 World Cup. He was then handed a five-year ban after admitting his part in spot-fixing. However, he made his comeback with the national side and is making his mark domestically too.

Amir has retired from international Test cricket but continues to represent Pakistan in the white-ball forms of the game. He has played for the Kings since 2016 and continues to lead their bowling attack.

Imad Wasim

Wasim is the current captain of the Karachi Kings in the PSL and plays for Pakistan in all forms of the game. He was born in Wales but his parents returned to Pakistan when he was still very young.

The talented all-rounder played at the under-19 World Cup in 2006 before rising to the senior side in 2015. He captained Pakistan’s ODI side in March 2019 and has been with KK since 2016. Wasim is also featured among the franchise’s top 10 run-scorers and wicket-takers.

Ravi Bopara

Batting all-rounder Ravi Bopara made a big impact for the Karachi Kings. He played for them in their very first season in the Pakistan Super League and was also handed the captaincy mid-way through that inaugural campaign. That came after Shoaib Malik stepped down from the role.

The England cricketer was named the player of the tournament in 2016 after making 329 runs and taking 11 wickets in nine matches for KK. Bopara is Karachi’s third-highest run-scorer with 575 runs in 28 innins between 2016 and 2019.

Karachi Kings Squad for PSL 2020

Karachi Kings have made some big squad changes ahead of the new Pakistan Super League season.

The team’s top two run-scorers in 2019, Liam Livingstone and Colin Ingram, have both departed.

In there place have come Alex Hales and Sharjeel Khan. Hales has been pushing for an England recall after fine showings in the Big Bash League, while Khan returns after a corruption ban.

It means that star man Babar could potentially be seen at three this season, though KK may shy away from changing things after his brilliance when opening in 2019.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Amir and fellow Pakistan star and team captain Imad Wasim will be supported in the bowling attack by England pair Liam Plunkett and Chris Jordan.

Others to arrive are the hard-hitting South African Cameron Delport and the highly-rated English talent of Dan Lawrence.

He and other stars from overseas decided to leave the tournament due to the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. James Vince of the Multan Sultans and other England players decided to leave as well.
