Cummins sets a new record for an overseas player in 2020 IPL auction
2020 IPL auction saw Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins become the third most expensive player ever. Kolkata Knight Riders paid a huge 15.5 crore INR ($2.15 million) in December’s auction, the highest fee ever for an overseas player in the competition’s history. Ben Stokes had previously held that record after he was purchased by the Rising Pune Supergiant for 14.5 crore INR ($2 million) in 2017.
At the time of the auction Cummins was ranked as the ICC’s leading Test bowler after a summer which saw Australia retain the Ashes in England. He’ll be expected to deliver plenty of wickets for his new team in 2020. As such, the Australian could prove an interesting selection for the Top Bowler prize when the additional markets are released closer to the tournament getting underway on 29th March.
