New Zealand v West Indies 1st T20I – Match Preview

The last time the West Indies played a T20I series in New Zealand they lost 2-0 in 2017/18.

However, none of those games were played at Eden Park. This venue hasn’t been the happiest hunting ground in T20 cricket for the hosts. Their last win here came five matches ago against Sri Lanka last year.

Where: Eden Park, Auckland

When: Friday, 27 November 2020

Start time: 11:30 (IST) 06:00 (GMT)

Pitch conditions: The pitch at Eden Park is known for offering assistance to spin and slow bowlers in humid conditions. The surface historically gets easier for batting later in games.

Weather conditions: An overcast day is forecast in Auckland. Rain is unlikely but there will be cloud cover and temperatures around 20 degrees.

New Zealand v West Indies 1st T20I – Team News

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson and bowler Trent Boult won’t feature in this T20I series. They have both been rested with the Test clashes that follow given more priority.

Pace bowler Kyle Jamieson and South African-born batsman Devon Conway have been given debut T20I call-ups for the Black Caps.

Tim Southee will captain the team for this clash in Williamson’s absence.

The West Indies are without all-rounder Andre Russell and batsmen Lendl Simmons and Evin Lewis.

That trio opted out of the tour but there are places for wicketkeeper-batsman Andre Fletcher as well as key men Nicholas Pooran, Shimron Hetmyer, Brandon King and Sheldon Cottrell

There is also a maiden T20I squad call-up for all-rounder Kyle Mayers following his fine showings in the Caribbean Premier League.

New Zealand v West Indies 1st T20I – Betting Tips and Predictions

New Zealand look worthy favourites for this fixture. The last time they were in T20I action on home soil they certainly gave India a run for their money.

The fact India dominated the scoreline in that series back in January doesn’t really tell the whole story. Twice they had to get past super overs against the Black Caps.

Like always, there are plenty of other markets to look out for as well as the outright winner odds.

Back Taylor to be New Zeland’s Top Batsman

Ross Taylor was in fine form for New Zealand against India. It is especially worth noting the impressive half-century at this ground in the first T20I.

He also went on to hit an unbeaten 73 in the ODI at Eden Park after that.

The fact his side will be without Kane Williamson and Colin Munro gives Taylor a good chance to be his team’s top batsman in this fixture. His price of 5.5 with 1xBet looks interesting.

Tim Seifert looks a danger if pushed higher up the order but preference goes to the more experienced Taylor.

Sodhi to Have Windies in a Spin

Spinner Ish Sodhi could be worth a bet when looking for value in the top New Zealand bowler market.

He should be suited by Eden Park and was another that had joy against India at the start of the year.

Sodhi took two wickets at this venue in the first T20I against India, another in the second match and three in the fourth clash. He has also looked in good form recently in the Plunket Shield for Northern Districts.

He can be backed at 5.0 with 1xBet to be New Zealand’s top bowler.

Pooran to Build on Impressive IPL Showings

Nicholas Pooran put in a number of eye-catching displays in the recent Indian Premier League.

His positive impact when batting for Kings XI Punjab bodes well ahead of this series.

Backing him to continue that form could be a decent bet, especially when looking at the men the Windies are having to do without.

Andre Russell, Lendl Simmons and Evin Lewis are a big miss for the tourists, but it does give Pooran the chance to shine.

He can be backed at 5.0 with 1xBet to be the Windies top batsman.
