Brisbane Heat v Adelaide Strikers – Match Preview

Brisbane have failed to get off the mark from their first two matches. Adelaide have won one and lost two from three outings so far.

It is the Strikers that have a better head-to-head record having won five of the last eight meetings. That includes the comfortable 10-wicket success when they last met in BBL 09.

Where: Brisbane Cricket Ground, Brisbane

When: Wednesday, 23 December 2020

Start time: 13:45 IST (08:15 GMT)

Pitch conditions: The pitch is likely to help pace bowlers early on and the new ball is likely to offer plenty of bounce and carry. The small dimensions at the Gabba do mean it is possible to score runs quickly but batting second should be prefered for the team winning the toss.

Weather conditions: We are set for mainly clear skies in Brisbane for this contest with temperatures around 25-30 degrees. There may be some cloud cover later in the match but rain is unlikely.

Brisbane Heat v Adelaide Strikers – Team News

Brisbane are without Australia batting duo Joe Burns and Marnus Labuschagne due to the Test series with India.

Chris Lynn will continue to lead the side and Dan Lawrence should still be available before he has to leave to link up with England.

The Heat lost Tom Banton before the tournament began but Joe Denly is set to arrive in January.

Jack Wildermuth surprised with the ball in the last outing but Jack Wood could be pushing for a return after two wickets in the opening game. More will certainly be expected from their frontline bowlers here.

Strikers will be hoping Phil Salt and Jake Weatherald can build on their starts from the last game, especially after news that Alex Carey will be missing.

Carey and Harry Conway won’t feature in this match after border closures from New South Wales to Queensland following a COVID-19 outbreak in Sydney.

Peter Siddle is likely to take over as captain in Carey’s absence. He and Dan Worrall have bowled well so far this tournament but Rashid Khan has to offer more.

Brisbane Heat v Adelaide Strikers – Betting Tips and Prediction

This looks like being a close battle between two sides that haven’t really got going as yet.

Preference would go to Adelaide despite taking on the Heat in home conditions. The Strikers have a decent record at the Gabba and could outgun their hosts.

As ever, there are plenty of other markets to look at when searching for the best bets.

Back Weatherald for Top Batsman

Adelaide batsman Jake Weatherald has enjoyed a good start to this year’s tournament. He made a quick-fire 27 in the last match before being dismissed just when he was looking to really kick on.

That followed the 68 he hit against Hobart and highlights the confidence he is playing with at present.

Backing him to be Adelaide’s top batsman looks at great bet at 4.32 with 22Bet.

Take on Rashid with Siddle

Rashid Khan heads the market to be Adelaide’s top bowler in this match.

However, that means taking him on offers value elsewhere. Picking Peter Siddle to shine at the Gabba is a value play that could pay.

Siddle wasn’t among the wickets in the last match but bagged a five-for before that. Conditions in Brisbane should suit him, especially if the visitors get to field first.

His price of 4.0 with bet365 is far too big.

Lynn to Take the Fight to Adelaide

Chris Lynn has looked the most in-form of the Brisbane batsmen so far this tournament.

His 69 against Thunder was a highlight and he will want to build on that here. The powerful batsman will enjoy being back at the Gabba and boundaries can flow.

Backing him to hit another half-century is an outside bet but one that can come in give Lynn’s strengths. That is priced at 3.4 with 22Bet.
