Barbados Tridents v St Kitts and Nevis Patriots – Match Preview

The St Kitts and Nevis Patriots have won five of their last six CPL matches against the Barbados Tridents. That’s a dominant record, against former champions, for a team that has never won the title.

The one the Tridents won in that six-match stretch was as recent as last year. Leniko Boucher starred with the bat and Sandeep Lamichhane the ball in that victory.

But Boucher has since joined the St Lucia Zouks and Lamichhane is now with the Jamaica Tallawahs, so Barbados will require others to step up in their absence this time.

Where: Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad

When: Tuesday, 18 August 2020

Start Time: 21:30 GMT (03:00 IST, next day)

Pitch conditions: The pitch for this fixture will likely have been used a few hours earlier during the tournament opener. It might prove a bit slower in the afternoon. A first-innings score of around 160 is the average. The CPL team that bat firsts usually wins here.

Weather conditions: Plenty of rain is forecast in Tarouba in the five days leading up to this match. Hopefully, we’ll get in a fixture, even if it’s shortened. Humidity levels will be high and the temperature 30-plus degrees.

Barbados Tridents v St Kitts and Nevis Patriots – Team News

The Tridents were meant to have 18-year-old Afghanistan batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz, but he was unable to join them. His high T20I average and big strike-rate will be missed.

Seamer Nyeem Young is a promising arrival. He will learn a lot from bowling with Jason Holder and other experienced campaigners.

There is a lot of expectation around the presence of international all-rounders Mitchell Santner, Corey Anderson and Rashid Khan. Santner will jet off to the IPL after the CPL.

The experienced Rayad Emrit is their new captain. Sheldon Cottrell will be a major asset among the St Kitts bowlers  – and he has already highlighted the importance of Ben Dunk and Chris Lynn to the batting department.

Veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Denesh Ramdin has joined the Patriots from the Trinbago Knight Riders. His expertise behind the stumps and ability with the bat in the middle order should be helpful.

Barbados Tridents v St Kitts and Nevis Patriots – Betting Tips and Prediction

Here are a few CPL betting tips to help you follow this match. You can use some of our free predictions with your legal betting in India.

Go for Bowled as the First Wicket Method

We really enjoy the market for the first method of dismissal. It’s an early chance to win a bet that is limited to just five options – bowled, caught, lbw, stumped and run-out.

With stumped and run-out unlikely early in the match, bowled and caught come into play even more. Bowled as the first wicket method at 4.00 with 10CRIC is a solid choice, especially if the ball is nipping around a bit.

Place a Bet on Nurse to be the Top Tridents Bowler

Ashley Nurse wasn’t necessarily among the Tridents’ top wicket-takers last season, but he had one of the lowest economy rates.

It’s this sort of economy that can really toll on the opposition batsmen, who want to get after the spin bowlers early in the match. This can lead to wickets. Nurse at 6.00 with 22Bet to be the best Tridents bowler is a good pick.

Back Charles to be the Player of the Match

Johnson Charles was the top run-scorer for the Tridents in the CPL 2019. He’s back for another season. At the top of the order, he is afforded plenty of time to really get stuck in.

Unibet have priced Charles at 10.00 to be the player of the match. A big innings could certainly set him up for this award.

Make sure you read our best bests round-up before the match gets started.
