The Stars of Islamabad United – Past and Present
Several players of international and local repute have contributed to the success of ISLU over the years. Here is a list of Islamabad United’s most influential figures.
Dwayne Smith
West Indian all-rounder Dwayne Smith played less of a role with the ball toward the twilight of his career, but remained a serious force with the bat. He scored the most runs for the franchise in the PSL 2017. He also played for Peshawar Zalmi and the Quetta Gladiators.
Rumman Raees
Left-rm seamer Rumman Raees is still with Islamabad United. Just like Wahab Riaz for Peshawar Zalmi, Raees has brought a successful dynamic to ISLU’s bowling attack with his left-arm variation. He took the most wickets for the franchise in 2017.
Andre Russell
West Indian all-rounder Andre Russell was ISLU’s leading wicket-taker in the first ever PSL in 2016, when Islamabad United won the title on the back of his 16 wickets. Russell wasn’t quite a household name in domestic T20 cricket around the world at the time, but has since become very successful, especially for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League.

JP Duminy
There were times when South African batsman JP Duminy was wanted more in T20 cricket in other parts of the world than he was in his own country. He called Islamabad United for a while, and even captained them for a couple of matches in 2018.
Mohammad Sami
Other than Misbah-ul-Haq, seamer Mohammad Sami has captained Islamabad United in the most matches. While it is more common that batsmen captain teams, Sami makes a good argument for bowlers been astute leaders as well.
Misbah-ul-Haq
The veteran Misbah-ul-Haq captained ISLU and is now their coach. At the same time, he has taken on more responsibility with the Pakistan national cricket team. He is a busy man, but has a proud record with ISLU and the the PSL in general to uphold.
Luke Ronchi
Wicketkeeper-batsman Luke Ronchi played international cricket for Australia and New Zealand. His hefty number of runs with the bat and experience of T20I cricket has been a big help to Islamabad United, who value him as a significant mentor.
