The nine most recent players of the tournament will be involved in the 2020 Indian Premier League. Three players have won the award twice. All three will play this season, too.
Discover our IPL betting tips for this market. Our predictions are compiled by experts in cricket and betting, who have years of experience and have followed the IPL from its start in 2008.
We also have information about the best betting websites in India. You can bet in rupees with Dafabet India, bet365 and others. They have a wide variety of IPL player of the tournament markets.
An all-rounder has won the award eight times. A batsman has received the accolade on four occasions. An Indian player has only claimed the trophy twice. The rest went to players from overseas.
A specialist bowler has never been named the most valuable player in the IPL.
This year's IPL will be played in the United Arab Emirates – not India. The UAE co-hosted the tournament in 2014. Kings XI Punjab star Glenn Maxwell won the MVP award then. He is with the same franchise this season.
Go for Kohli if You're Backing a Batsman
Virat Kohli has the most runs in the history of the IPL. His closest rival, Suresh Raina of the Chennai Super Kings, has withdrawn from this year's IPL.
Kohli was the player of the tournament in 2016, when his Royal Challengers Bangalore lost to the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final.
His average in T20 international cricket is over 50. But his T20I aggregate is more than 60 in Asia, including the UAE and India. Kohli is priced at 11.0 by 22Bet to be the player of the tournament.
Kohli is a huge favourite among the Royal Challengers Bangalore roster – and equally so in the IPL markets on the best betting websites in India.
Bet on Russell if You Think an All-Rounder Will Win
The IPL 2020 will see plenty of good seaming all-rounders, including Ben Stokes, Mitchell Marsh and Hardik Pandya. Andre Russell is arguably the best of the lot.
He will go into this tournament on the back of some handy form in the Caribbean Premier League 2020. He bowled more at the start than the end of the Jamaica Tallawahs' campaign.
The hard-hitting right-hander ended Jamaica's failed pursuit of the title with successive half-centuries. Russell was named player of the IPL last year and in 2015. He is offered at 12.0 with bet365 for a third MVP trophy this season.
Pick Bhuvneshwar For a Bowler to Be the IPL MVP
A specialist bowler has never been named the IPL player of the tournament. Bhuvneshwar Kumar could be the first – and is priced at 34.0 with 22Bet to do so.
The Indian seamer took 20 wickets in 14 appearances in 2014, when the IPL was last played in the UAE. Mohit Sharma, who will also play this year, was the only other seamer to take more wickets than Kumar that year.
Kumar bowls wicket to wicket – and hardly wavers on his methodical lines and lengths. But he varies things, too. That's what's required to succeed in UAE conditions.
Choose Narine Among the Repeat Winners
If not Andre Russell or Shane Watson, then Sunil Narine is looking in good shape for another IPL player of the tournament award.
Narine has been something of a revelation at the top of the Kolkata Knight Riders batting order. Of course, his primary role is with the ball.
He missed some matches in the recent CPL 2020, but the Trinbago Knight Riders still won the tournament regardless. Bet on Narine at 15.0 with 22Bet to be the IPL MVP this year.

Gill is Another Good Indian Option
Shubman Gill had only recently been capped by India when the IPL 2019 started. He has since grown in stature as cricketer and remains among the popular picks in our IPL betting tips.
He'll be key to the Kolkata Knight Riders roster again this season and has a “bright future”, according to former England captain and IPL superstar Kevin Pietersen.
Get Gill at 21.0 with 22Bet to be the player of the tournament. Batting alongside Eoin Morgan, Narine and other greats of the tournament should serve him well.
Remember Maxwell's 2014 Success in the UAE
Australian Glenn Maxwell clinched the MVP award the last time the competition was played in the UAE. He had a role to play with the ball and was a key fielder for Punjab.
He's one of the best fielder in the game and will be placed at key catching positions again. Of course, it's his primary role with the bat that Punjab appreciate the most.
For his batting, bowling and fielding, Maxwell is a good pick at 29.0 with bet365 to be the MVP again. He'll be fresh from some solid performances in Australia's recent limited-overs series against England.
Don't Discount Warner and Rashid's Experience in the Gulf
Eight of the Sunrisers Hyderabad's 14 round-robin matches will be played in Dubai. David Warner and Rashid Khan have significant T20I experience in this region.
Warner's T20I average in Dubai is over 55 – that's some 23 runs more than his career aggregate in the shortest format. Rashid has played plenty of international cricket in the UAE – Afghanistan's cricketing home away from home.
Warner is offered 11.0 and Khan 13.00 with bet365 to be the player of the IPL 2020. Khan is probably the better value bet here, as he can contribute with bat and ball.
