Bumrah Looking Forward to Bowling with Boult in IPL

New Zealander strengthens Mumbai

Trent Boult bowls for New Zealand

Jasprit Bumrah says he’s looking forward to teaming up with Trent Boult for Mumbai Indian at IPL 2020.

The New Zealander has joined MI ahead of this year’s tournament, which gets underway in the UAE on September 19.

Bumrah thinks the capture of Boult is good for Mumbai as they look to defend their IPL crown.

He said: “When you play for a successful franchise, expectations will always be there. We have a very good team.

“There's Trent Boult that I'm looking forward to bowling with. Mumbai Indians have always looked to raise the bar.”

Mumbai will begin their 2020 campaign when they meet rivals Chennai Super Kings for the curtain-raiser.

Bumrah is raring to go after using Covid-19 lockdown to get himself in top shape.

“I'm usually on the leaner side, and don't tend to put on weight easily. So, the lockdown allowed me to concentrate on a bit of muscle building,” he told the Times of India.

“I have decent eating habits and stay away from junk food. As a teenager, I ate whatever I wanted and used to get away with it. But ever since I turned professional, I've been very wary of what I consume.

“The main aspect of my training at home was to get my muscle-mass up. I realised that once this (lockdown) would end, the schedule would once again become very hectic because a lot of cricket is not happening and at some point, they'll try to cover up for this.”

Bumrah Mindful of a Prolonged Career

The pace bowler was also in regular contact with his physios and coaches during lockdown.

He is especially mindful of making sure he is in the best shape so he can prolong his career.

He said: “I used to have regular interactions with my physio, trainer, some senior cricketers, discuss multiple aspects of what was working and what wasn't.

“One of the major points of conversation was about how we prolong our career once cricket begins.

“It went very well. We would get on calls to discuss various things. Then, once we started hitting the ground for outdoor training, every second week, we would be sharing details of how things are going, what has it been like.”
