Mangaung Oval profile
Previously known as Springbok Park, Chevrolet Park, Goodyear Park and OUTsurance Oval, subject to the title sponsor at the time, the Mangaung Oval is located in the landlocked South African city of Bloemfontein.
The stadium is not as frequently used for international cricket as some of the country’s other grounds such as Newlands Stadium or Kingsmead Stadium. It is effectively in the secondary category, like Boland Park and Willowmoore Park.
Former South African cricket heroes – fast bowler Allan Donald and the late Hansie Cronje – hail from the province of Free State.
What to look for when betting on matches at the Mangaung Oval
In Test cricket, the pitch tends to start slowly but quicken up on days two and three. It has hosted some high-scoring draws in first-class cricket on veritable green tops.
In ODI cricket, this isn’t a great venue for chasing totals. Only three of the last 10 ODIs here have been won by the team batting second. Picking the team who bats first to win can be a safe cricket bet.
The ground is often used during early home season tours, as it doesn’t get as affected by the winter rains experienced across other South African cities.
The Mangaung Oval doesn’t have a Mzansi Super League franchise. The ground was due the Bloem City Blazers before the Global T20 League was aborted – and were not afforded a team when the tournament was relaunched as the MSL.
