India vs South Africa 1st ODI – Match Preview
Where: Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala
When: Thursday, 12 March 2020
Pitch conditions: This ground has hosted four ODIs. Three of the teams who batted second won the match. India’s win record here is only 50 percent. This is a good venue for chasing. South Africa have played T20I cricket here and some of their players would have experienced the venue in the IPL, but this will be the Proteas’ first ODI in Dharamsala.
Weather conditions: There is plenty of rain predicted in Dharamsala for the days prior to the first ODI – and match day. This suggests an abbreviated fixture, if we get one at all. Humidity levels will be characteristically high. Temperatures won’t likely get much higher than 12 degrees Celsius.
Start Time: 13:30 (IST), 8:00 (GMT)
India vs South Africa 1st ODI – Latest Odds
India and South Africa are priced at 1.40 and 2.87, respectively, in the latest odds with Betway to win the first ODI in Dharamsala. You can also get India at 2.62 to win the toss and the match. South Africa are offered at 5.00 in the same market.
India vs South Africa 1st ODI – Team News
India have Hardik Pandya, Shikhar Dhawan an Bhuvneshwar Kumar back from injury. All three will likely be named in the XI. Kumar’s role will be particularly important in the absence of Mohammed Shami, who has been rested for the series. Pandya hit a brisk century recently, showing to little to no aftereffects from back surgery. His presence in the XI will be a big boost for the batting and bowling ranks.
Former ODI captain Faf du Plessis is back in the South African squad. He was rested for the ODIs against Australia. Du Plessis will be hard pressed to get back into a middle order that has been refreshed with consistent runs from Kyle Verreynne, Jon-Jon Smuts and Heinrich Klaasen. Time will tell if Janneman Malan opens the batting alongside Quinton de Kock instead of Temba Bavuma.

India vs South Africa 1st ODI – Betting Tips and Prediction
The first match of a series is always a good time to see how the rest of the matches might unfold in the cricket betting. ODI predictions for India vs South Africa are nicely poised, especially as one team has several fresh faces and the other has welcomed a string of old names back from injury. Let’s see what some of the best cricket tips are for this series.
First Ball of the Match
This market is popular with Betway, who have a dot ball priced at 1.28 and a single offered at 5.00. For longer odds, opting for two runs off the bat at 19.00 or a four to be hit at 11.00 are among some of the best cricket tips. The bowler might still be finding his line, while the batsman will be keen to get going quickly, so the circumstances could be nicely poised for this batting market.
Method of First Dismissal
Caught is priced at 1.40, bowled at 5.00 and lbw 6.00. All are good markets, but stumped at 21.00 is a longer shot. South Africa may well open the bowling with spinner Keshav Maharaj, while spinner Ravindra Jadeja has been known to sneak and opening over for India. Either could bring the wicketkeeper into play nice and early.
Best Bet: Four off the first ball of the match at 11.00 with Betway
