India vs Australia 1st ODI Preview – Betting Tips, Latest Odds, Team News and Predictions – 14/01/2020
India and Australia will do battle in Mumbai for the first game of a three-match ODI series between the sides.
Both teams will be using the game to begin preparations towards the next World Cup in 2023 as well as fine-tuning their limited-overs approach for the upcoming T20 World Cup in October.
India go into this first ODI on the back of a T20I series success over Sri Lanka last week. The last time their ODI side was in action they picked up a win over West Indies at the end of 2019.
For Australia, this will be the first time their ODI side has been seen since crashing out of the World Cup semi-final against England.

India vs Australia 1st ODI – Latest Odds
India are made short-priced favourites to take an early lead in the series. They can be backed at 1.67 (4/6) with bet365 to bag the win at Wankhede.
Australia can be backed at 2.20 (6/5) to return to winning ways in the one-day format.
India vs Australia 1st ODI – Team News
The hosts are considering playing KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma.
Rahul and Dhawan have been in fine form at the top of the order in recent limited-overs cricket but Rohit Sharma returns after being rested against Sri Lanka.
It means captain Virat Kohli could move down to four to accommodate all three against Australia.
The decision to do that will have consequences lower down the order. India may have to pick between Rishabh Pant and Kedar Jadhav in the middle order, especially if they don’t want to dislodge Ravindra Jedeja from the number seven slot and reduce their bowling options.
If Pant is left out it could see Rahul handed the gloves, though it seems more likely that Pant will keep his place.
Mohammed Shami is also back in the fold after being rested forth Sri Lanka series
Australia, meanwhile, could hand an ODI debut to Test star Marnus Labuschagne.
There have been recalls for Josh Hazlewood, Ashton Agar, Ashton Turner and Sean Abbott ahead of this series.
India vs Australia 1st ODI – Betting Tips and Prediction
India look in good form at present and will take some beating on home soil.
They also have a much more settled look to their line-up with Australia making a number of squad changes for this.
However, it is worth remembering that Australia secured a 3-2 comeback success the last time the teams met in India and you’d be foolish to completely write off the visitors’ chances.
While India are rightly short-priced favourites to win, there could be some interesting value to be found in the top team batsman and top team bowler markets.
KL Rahul to continue to shine
Rahul caught the eye during India’s last ODI series win against West Indies in December. He scored a fine century in the second match at Visakhapatnam and followed that up with a well-measured 77 in Cuttack.
The opener continued that form into the T20I series against Sri Lanka. He looks to have earned the right to keep his place despite the return of Rohit Sharma.
The last time he played a match at Mumbai he fired 91 in a T20I against West Indies.
With Kohli potentially dropping down the order for this match and Sharma back from a break, Rahul looks the value bet.
He is priced at 4.50 (7/2) with bet365 to be India’s top batsman.
Once again, Virat Kohli heads that market at 3.25 (9/4). He is followed by the returning Sharma at 3.50 (5/2).
Home joy for brilliant Bumrah
Jasprit Bumrah knows Wankhede like the back of his hand and the Mumbai Indians man looks a good bet to be his team’s top bowler.
He returned from a four-month injury lay-off to feature in the T20I series with Sri Lanka. That should have blown away the cobwebs in time for the visit of Australia.
He only took one wicket in the final T20I on Friday but don’t be surprised if he comes back with a bang at his home ground.
He can be backed to be India’s top wicket-taker at 3.50 (5/2) with bet365.
Best Bet: KL Rahul to be India’s top batsman at 4.50 (7/2) with bet365
