Hobart Hurricanes vs Adelaide Strikers – Big Bash League Betting Tips, Latest Odds, Team News and Predictions – 19/1/2020
The Hobart Hurricanes are really struggling to keep up the pace with at least six of the other teams. The Adelaide Strikers, meanwhile, are right up there in the top three. Hobart and Adelaide haven’t played each other yet, even this late in the tournament, but will battle it out again in a week’s time during the second-last fixture of the group stage. By then, the qualifiers will have all but been confirmed, so now is the best time to lay an early marker for then.

Hobart Hurricanes vs Adelaide Strikers – Latest Odds
Dafabet have the Hurricanes priced at 2.14 for the win. The Strikers are offered at a tighter 1.69. The last time they met, in last season’s Big Bash League, the Strikers won comfortably.
Hobart Hurricanes vs Adelaide Strikers – Team News
The Hurricanes have named an unchanged squad and there is no real reason to change the XI that shared a washout with the Sydney Sixers recently. Opening the bowling with spinner Clive Rose could be the way forward again, especially if Travis Head, Phil Salt and others are looking forward to pace coming onto the bat.
Hobart need something special from overseas signing David Miller. He hasn’t quite clicked this tournament, while some of his fellow South Africans elsewhere in the BBL have. Then there’s Matthew Wade and Ben McDermott around Miller. Those three in particular will be tasked with scoring the bulk of the runs.
For the Strikers, they’ll earmark two batsmen to really get going against opposition who have an awkward penchant for conceding the BBL’s highest partnerships. In fact, three of Adelaide’s top five BBL stands have come against Adelaide over the years.
The Adelaide bowling department will need a fitting makeup. They’ve got two leg-spinners in Rashid Khan and Liam O’Conner, coupled with the wily seam of Peter Siddle and lanky fast bowling of Billy Stanlake. Whether all four play remains to be seen, but the prospect is an attractive one.
Hobart Hurricanes vs Adelaide Strikers – Betting Tips
Invermay Park in Launceston has some unknown qualities because it’s a ground that doesn’t get used much for BBL cricket. Conditions will dictate some play, but largely the players will stick to what they know. Jake Weatherald and Qais Ahmad might fare especially well.
The 19-year-old leg-spinner has been capped once at Test level but is looking good to be picked for Afghanistan’s T20 World Cup squad later this year. He has been the Hurricanes’ leading wicket-taker in this season’s Big Bash League so far. His clever variations and ability to take the pace of the ball and throw in the odd quicker one, particularly at this relatively unknown venue, could get the better of the Strikers.
Weatherald is currently among the BBL’s top five run-scorers this season. He has a better average than Shaun Marsh and a higher strike-rate than Marcus Stoinis, who are second and first, respectively. Weatherald starred for the Strikers when they beat the Hurricanes last season. He has gathered really good consistency and seems a hit or two away from a truly big knock.
Hobart Hurricanes vs Adelaide Strikers – Prediction
While they lost their last game of last season to the Strikers, the Hurricanes beat them in the first – by a resounding 10 wickets. They can bounce back from a difficult run this season – and remain in contention for the qualifiers. They have home-ground advantage, of sorts, and enough big names to make this work.
Best Bet: David Miller to be top batsman for Hurricanes at 4.30 with Dafabet
