England v Australia 1st ODI – Match Preview

Despite the fact Australia had not played any competitive action since March, they made a real fight of it in the T20I series.

They should improve for that and be a stronger unit for these three fixtures.

England, meanwhile, have some big names back in the mix and will be keen to go 1-0 up.

Where: Old Trafford, Manchester, England

When: Friday 11, September 2020

Start Time: 16:30 IST (12:00 GMT)

Pitch conditions: Old Trafford is known for being one of the quickest pitches in England, which will interest both bowling attacks for this one. However, a slow, spin-friendly surface is expected for this one.

Weather conditions: It is set to be a dry day in Manchester. Rain is unlikely but there will be overcast conditions throughout. Temperatures are set to be around 15 degrees celsius.

England v Australia 1st ODI – Latest Odds

Australia are priced at 2.0 with the same betting site to come out on top.

England v Australia 1st ODI – Team News

Jason Roy is pushing for a place after missing the previous T20I series with a side strain.

Jos Buttler will also return after being given time off to see his family during that third T20.

That duo plus the inclusion of Tom Banton and Jonny Bairstow means Eoin Morgan could have some decisions to make at the top of the order.

The captain should have recovered from the dislocated finger that kept him out of that final T20 clash, too.

Joe Root could also be involved to help anchor the side with Morgan and Moeen Ali.

Chris Woakes is also available and will be competing with the Curran brothers for a place in the bowling attack alongside Jofra Archer, Chris Wood and Adil Rashid.

Australia have the same 21-man squad to select from as they had for the T20I series.

David Warner and captain Aaron Finch will again be vital but Marnus Labuschagne could come in after sitting out the T20s.

Nathan Lyon has also made the trip and is another that England will have to look out for.

England v Australia 1st ODI – Betting Tips and Prediction

This first ODI of the series is brilliantly poised after the closely-contested T20Is between these two.

Australia will be buoyed by their win in the third T20 but England have key men to return.

It promises to be close but preference would go to current World Cup holders England.

Australia to Have Highest Opening Partnership

Australia can be backed at 1.91 with 22Bet to have the highest opening partnership of the first ODI.

That looks a good bet considering the form of both David Warner and Aaron Finch in the recent T20Is. Matthew Wade also came in for the third match and did okay.

Given the inconsistent form of England’s Jonny Bairstow and the fact that Jason Roy might return after injury, siding with Australia looks a great option.

Back Labuschagne to Start with a Bang

Marnus Labuschagne seems to love batting in England. He did brilliantly in the Ashes last year and hasn’t looked back since.

He could be the value pick to be Australia’s top batsman in this clash, especially if the visitors lose early wickets.

Labuschagne’s last two ODI outings saw him bag 108 and 56 at the start of the year against South Africa and New Zealand, respectively.

His price of 6.0 with bet365 looks a value pick.

Look to Chris Woakes in Player Performance Market

If Chris Woakes gets selected, he looks a good bet in the player performance odds.

His ability with the bat is a huge bonus on top of his abilities with the ball in English conditions. He has been in sparkling form and is priced at 1.83 with bet365 to get over 41.5 points.

Don’t forget, he will get 20 points for every wicket, one point for every run he manages, and 10 points for a catch in the field.
