Chennai’s IPL campaign has been mixed but moments of consistent quality have been few and far between. They got off to a fine start with victory over old rivals Mumbai but failed to kick on from that.

RCB, meanwhile, will have been happy with how the tournament was going before finding the Capitals too good last time out.

While Bangalore are enjoying the better IPL season so far, the historic head-to-head stats don’t make for good reading from their perspective. CSK have won six of the last seven games, but it was the most recent meeting that saw Royal Challengers come out on top.

Chennai made one change before their defeat against KKR as Karn Sharma replaced Piyush Chawla, who can consider himself to be a little unlucky to have been left out.

Chawla has done well at times and could now come back into the fold for this. Other options in the bowling attack for CSK to consider are South African quick Lungi Ngidi or Australian Josh Hazlewood. Don’t be surprised to see Imran Tahir finally get some action

That said, Skipper MS Dhoni will have been pleased with the way Sharma, Curran, Bravo and Thakur all took wickets against Kolkata.

There shouldn’t be any drastic changes in the batting line-up as Shane Watson and Faf du Plessis continue to look solid.

RCB replaced Gurkeerat Singh Mann and Adam Zampa with Moeen Ali and Mohammed Siraj for their loss against Dehli.

Both Mann and particularly Zampa will be pushing for a return, not to mention the experienced Dale Steyn.

Much like CSK, RCB have a pretty settled top order and are also more likely to stick with it than make sweeping changes, though they may be tempted to hand another opportunity to Josh Philippe at some stage.

This could well come down to if RCB are able to trouble CSK with the ball. As ever, they have a strong batting line-up but a fragile bowling attack was highlighted once more in their last defeat to Delhi.

Washington Sundar was a bright spark again and given how well Bangalore have done so far, RCB would be the selection in the outright market.

However, given how close this one could be, looking at other markets is a better way to find value.

Despite Chennai’s troubles in IPL 2020 their opening pair of Faf du Plessis and Shane Watson have looked in fine order.

The duo have used all their experience to find runs and give their team a solid foundation to work from.

While RCB also have a strong batting line-up, their openers haven’t found the same consistency.

Shardul Thakur has looked dangerous lately and can be among the wickets again should he be selected.

He has taken two wickets in both of his last two outings, including in his last showing in Dubai against KXIP.
