Maharashtra Profile:

The Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium was only established in 2012 but has played host to the India national team and a host of IPL franchises.

It was originally meant to be ready to host games during the 2011 World Cup but wasn’t completed on time. The decision to build a new stadium in Pune came about following a dispute over ticket allocation between the Maharashtra Cricket Association and the Pune Municipal Corporation at the Nehru Stadium. MCA took the step to build another ground.

It was finally opened in 2012 and the first game there saw Kings XI Punjab take on Pune Warriors in April 2012.

The first year of the stadium also saw India host England in a T20I. The ground was chosen for Test match cricket and hosted its first fixture when Australia took on India in 2017.

As well as the India international side, Maharashtra stadium has also hosted the Pune Warriors, Kings XI Punjab, Rising Pune Supergiant and Chennai Super Kings. CSK used the ground after political protests in 2018 prevented them from using their home.

Other teams to use the stadium include the Maharashtra cricket team and Veer Marathi.

India have played two Test matches at the group. They were first defeat by Australia in 2017 but picked up their first win when defeating South Africa in 2019.

What to look for when betting on matches at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium

The pitch at Maharashtra Stadium is known for being a good wicket for batting. This is something that should be considered by anyone looking to bet on matches played there.

Another thing to consider is the fact that spin can come into play as games develop. Spinners have had joy getting the ball to grip on the surface as the pitch condition deteriorates.

Betting on IPL matches at Maharashtra Stadium

The Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium didn’t host any IPL games in 2019 but had an average first innings score of 173.883 in 2018.

When betting on IPL games at the ground it could also be worth considering the victory stats for teams batting first or second.

The stadium slightly favours teams that bat second with a win percentage of 53.8. Teams batting first win 46.2 per cent of the time.
