Chidambaram Stadium Profile:
Chidambaram Stadium is the third oldest in India following its establishment in 1916. Only Kolkata’s Eden Gardens and the Feroz Shaha Kolta Stadium in Delhi are older.
The ground, which is based in Chennai, is named after former BCCI president M.A. Chidambaram but is also known as the Chepauk Stadium.
The first test match to be held at the ground took place in 1934 but it wasn’t until 1952 until India celebrated their first victory there. That came against England. A tied match between India and Australia in 1986 was the second ever in the history of the sport.
Other memorable moments to take place at the stadium include the first-ever game in the Ranji Trophy in 1934 and the site where Sunil Gavaskar hit his 30th Test century to surpass Don Bradman’s record.
It was at the stadium where Rahul Dravid passed the 10,000 Test runs mark and where Sachin Tendulkar scored more runs than any other ground in India.
As well as hosting the India national team, the stadium is home of IPL team Chennai Super Kings and the Tamil Nadu cricket team. The ground has previously been chosen to host matches at three different world cups in 1987, 1996 and 2011.
Spectators at the Chepauk stadium are renowned for their knowledge of the game and sporting behaviour. This was evident when Pakistan were afforded a standing ovation when winning a Test match against India in 1999.
What to look for when betting on matches at Chidambaram Stadium
The pitches at Chidambaram Stadium tend to favour spin bowling, which is something that should be considered when betting on cricket matches played there.
Nine out of the top 10 wicket-takers at the ground are spinners. This should be looked at when having a bet on international games at the ground and particularly when betting in the IPL.
Betting on IPL matches at Chidambaram Stadium
