Sydney Thunder vs Perth Scorchers – Big Bash League Betting Tips, Latest Odds, Team News and Predictions – 26/1/2020
The Sydney Thunder cannot afford to this match in order to get into the next stage of the 2019-20 Big Bash League. The Perth Scorchers are higher on the the log than the Thunder, but they can’t chance anything else other than a win.
The Thunder and Scorchers met under a week ago, when the Perth franchise were comfortable winners on the back of half-centuries from Josh Inglis and Liam Livingstone, while Chris Jordan took three key wickets.
The Sydney team had beaten the men from Perth three times in a row during previous BBLs prior to this season’s defeat. There is plenty on the line for both of them this time, as the tournament nears its business end.

Sydney Thunder vs Perth Scorchers – Team News
The Thunder have named an unchanged squad despite Friday’s defeat to the Hobart Hurricanes. Alex Hales, Callum Ferguson, Usman Khawaja and Alex Ross will be tasked with scoring the bulk of the runs, while they’d certainly like more from Chris Morris, too.
South African all-rounder Morris hasn’t really delivered with the bat, but will be vital with the ball again. He has taken 10 wickets less than team-mate Daniel Sams, who is this BBL season’s leading wicket-taker, and the pair will be key in combination again.
The Scorchers will debut former Proteas pace ace Morne Morkel. The lanky right-armer hasn’t played competitive cricket since last year, but boasts plenty of international experience in Australia – and will benefit from a pitch bound to offer extra bounce.
Morkel’s role will be important in the absence of Jordan, who has left to join England for their ODI series against South Africa. Captain Mitchell Marsh, as always, will insist on a big performance from himself. He has hit some of the biggest sixes this BBL season – and will chase more.
Sydney Thunder vs Perth Scorchers – Betting Tips
The match will pose a string of entertaining head-to-head battles, including Hales versus Sams and Livingstone against Morris. There will be others, too.
Stick with Sam
Sams has been pretty special this season, screaming to the top of the list of top wicket-takers in the 2019-20 BBL. His closest competitor is Tom Curran of the Sydney Sixers. But Curran, like Jordan, will soon exit the tournament and head to South Africa. Sams to be the Thunder’s top bowler at 3.25 with Bet365 is a good pick.
Punting on Marsh to shine with bat and probably ball is advised. Marsh is averaging almost 40 and striking at over 140 this BBL season. He gives himself a bowl often enough, especially when the frontline seamers are not bowling on cue. Marsh to be the Player of the Match at 11.00 are attractive odds at this stage of the tournament.
Sydney Thunder vs Perth Scorchers – Prediction
This will come down to who wants it more, with a bit of luck mixed into the intangible elements. The Thunder are looking good on paper, provided especially Morris steps up quickly. Don’t write off the Scorchers, though.
Best Bet: Mitchell Marsh to be Player of the Match at 11.00 with Bet365
