Sydney Sixers vs Melbourne Stars – Big Bash League Final Betting Tips, Latest Odds, Team News and Predictions – 8/2/2020

It all comes down to this. The 2019-20 Big Bash League has enjoyed its twists and turns, leaving the Sydney Sixers and Melbourne Stars to contest the final at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Saturday.

Here’s hoping the wet weather doesn’t interfere too much, if at all, as the Sixers add to the title they won in 2011-12 or the Stars win a maiden BBL title after losing two finals previously.

The teams met twice in this season’s round-robin stage and again in the Qualifier. After an initial loss, the Sixers won the next two.

Sydney Sixers vs Melbourne Stars – Team News

The Sydney Sixers have named an unchanged squad for the final. Three members of the squad – Moises Henriques, Steven Smith and Steve O’Keefe – were part of the XI that won the first ever Big Bash League in 2012.

Henriques, Daniel Hughes, Jordan Silk, Sean Abbott, Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Lyon and Jackson Bird were in the team that lost the 2016-17 final to the Perth Scorchers.

Glenn Maxwell Catching for Australia

The Melbourne Stars have made one change to their squad, with Jonathan Merlo replacing Dilbar Hussain. The squad is lined with the in-form Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa.

Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf is in, too, and will be among the key bowling markets for the BBL final. The Stars would dearly love to ensure their third BBL final results in a maiden title.

Sydney Sixers vs Melbourne Stars – Betting Tips

This contest will likely be decided by who has the most muscle in the batting ranks. Yes, the bowlers will have a part to play, but the batting of the Sixers and Stars are at the forefront of these betting tips.

Josh Philippe to be top batsman for Sydney Sixers

The Royal Challengers Bangalore certainly saw something attractive in Philippe when they recruited him for this year’s Indian Premier League. He has starred ahead of several other bigger names in the BBL – and has scored the most runs for the Sixers this season so far. His last outing against the Stars yielded the top score in the whole match. Bet365 hav Philippe priced at 3.75 to be the top batsman for the Sixers against the Stars.

Marcus Stoinis to carry Melbourne Stars again

That man Stoinis is still eager to prove a point after being left out of Australia‘s squad for the upcoming T20I series against South Africa. He has already been named the Big Bash League Player of the Tournament and will almost certainly top the season’s run-scoring charts. He often delivers when it is needed most – and it’s most definitely needed in the final. Bet365 have priced Stoinis at 3.00 to be the top batsman for the Stars in the BBL final.

What happens if the BBL final is washed out?

Amid all the rain expected in Sydney on Saturday, a minimum of five overs per innings is required to constitute a match. If the BBL final is washed out, the Sydney Sixers will be named the champions.

Tournament rules state: “If there is a tie (with no ‘Super Over’ possible), No Result or an Abandoned match in the “Grand Final” then the home team shall be declared the winner of the “Grand Final” and BBL Champions.”

This would be tough on the Stars, as they finished higher on the log and won more matches than the Sixers during the round-robin stage of the tournament. There is no reserve day for the final.

Sydney Sixers vs Melbourne Stars – Prediction

This will be a cracker, as the Sixers are chasing a second title and redemption for losing to the Perth Scorchers a couple of seasons ago. The Stars want to win a BBL final for the first time, as they have lost two previously.

Best Bet Josh Philippe at 3.75 with Bet365 to be the top batsman for the Sydney Sixers
