South Africa vs Australia 3rd ODI Preview – Betting Tips, Latest Odds, Team News and Predictions – 7/3/2020
South Africa bounced back from defeat in the preceding T20I series against the same opposition to take an unassailable two-nil ODI series lead earlier this week.
The series now heads to Potchefstroom, as the Proteas target a rare series whitewash over the Australians. The Aussies, of course, are chasing a consolation victory.
We have some of the best betting odds, latest cricket news from the teams and more for you as one of cricket’s oldest rivalries – especially in this format – continues.
South Africa vs Australia 3rd ODI – Match Preview
Where: Senwes Park, Potchefstroom
When: Saturday, 7 March 2020
Pitch conditions: Like the venue for the second ODI, Potchefstroom is landlocked, so conditions are not affected by the sea breeze. Plenty of provincial and franchise cricket takes place at this ground, which often sports a batsmen-friendly wicket. Eight of the last 10 ODIs here have been won by the team batting second. Senwes Park, indeed, is a good deck for chasing. This will be morning rather than an afternoon start, though, which means there could be something it early for the bowlers.
Weather conditions: No rain is predicted for Potchefstroom on Saturday, when a high of 28 degrees Celsius is expected. That’s not overly hot, so this should be quite a pleasant day out for the South Africans, Aussies and fans at the ground.
Start Time: 13:30 (IST), 8:00 (GMT)
South Africa vs Australia 3rd ODI – Latest Odds
South Africa and Australia are priced at 2.62 and 1.50, respectively in the latest odds by bet365 to win this match. They have also tipped the South Aficans to hit more fours and sixes than the Aussies, as the cricket odds continue to stack up against the tourists.
South Africa vs Australia 3rd ODI – Team News
South Africa will again be without Temba Bavuma, who was withdrawn from the squad as a precaution prior to the second ODI. He is recovering from a hamstring injury. Rassie van der Dussen has been called up to the squad as injury cover. But Jon-Jon Smuts will likely retain his position at three in the order – and Janneman Malan will get another go as opener on the back of a maiden ODI century in Bloemfontein. The uncapped Daryn Dupavillon has been added to the squad as cover for Beuran Hendricks and Lungi Ngidi. Hendricks is ill and Ngidi will be rested for this match. Tabraiz Shamsi won’t play either, as he is on paternity leave.
The Australians replaced fast bowler Josh Hazlewood with spinner Ashton Agar at the Mangaung Oval. Agar will probably be kept, but not at the expense of Hazlewood, who will likely return to the XI for Mitchell Starc. Starc has been allowed to leave the tour early to watch his wife Alyssa Healy play in the final of the Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia. The Aussies, too, might want to consider playing Matthew Wade instead of D’Arcy Short.

South Africa vs Australia 3rd ODI – Betting Tips and Prediction
South Africa have won 10 of their last 11 ODIs against Australia, including one at the the World Cup last year. The home side are tipped to make it 11 in 12 in the cricket predictions for Saturday’s showdown at Senwes Park. If ever there was an opportunity for the Proteas to oblige the ODI cricket odds that have them as favourites to complete the series whitewash it, now is the time.
Malan to prove his might again
Malan spent plenty of time playing at the ground for this third ODI before moving from the North West to the Cape Cobras. He bounced back so well from that first-ball duck on ODI debut to strike a superb century in the second match. The odds are in his favour to be South Africa’s top batsman again at 4.50. Smuts is also in the running to top this market at 4.50. He has pledged plenty, but not quite converted yet.
Agar to act quickly
An Australian seamer is likely to succeed at this venue. Mitchell Starc is in fine form and has made Quinton de Kock his bunny, of sorts. Starc is priced at 3.60 to be the top bowler for Australia. The tourists really need their talisman to step up and help them avoid a series sweep. Agar played really well at the Wanderers in the preceding T20I series against the Proteas. Much like the Wanderers, Senwes Park isn’t expected to suit spin. Agar, though, has a knack for triumphing over adverse conditions. He is offered at 7.50 to be Australia’s top bowler.
Best Bet: Janneman Malan to be South Africa’s top batsman at 4.50 with bet365
