India vs Australia 3rd ODI Preview – Betting Tips, Latest Odds, Team News and Predictions – 19/1/2020

India and Australia head into the third and final ODI clash of the series with everything still to play for. The series is now finely poised as both sides look to snatch a memorable victory. India bounced back from their opening defeat in Mumbai to claim an excellent 36-run success in Rajkot.

Skipper Virat Kohli had more joy in the second ODI as he returned to his favoured number three spot in the order. Kohli hit 78 as India made 340-6. Rohit Sharma (42), Shikhar Dhawan (96) and KL Rahul (80) all looked in decent order in Rajkot and they will be looking for a repeat in this one.

However, if the first ODI was all about Australia’s openers David Warner and Aaron Finch, the second ODI was Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne’s time to shine. The duo, so often unflappable in Test matches together, were a huge positive in defeat.

Smith’s 98 and Labuschagne’s 46 highlighted Australia’s firepower at the top of the order. It certainly means this deciding clash really is one not to miss.

India vs Australia 3rd ODI – Latest Odds

The bookmakers have made India slight favourites to win the third and final ODI after they leveled the series.

India vs Australia 3rd ODI – Team News

Opener Rohit Sharma will have to have a shoulder injury assessed before the series decider. The batsman had to leave the field after picking up the injury when fielding in the second game in Rajkot on Friday.

He tumbled in the deep as he tried to cover Ashton Agar’s cut shot from the bowling of Navdeep Saini. Sharma was attended to by the Indian medical team but had to be replaced by Jedar Jadhav.

After the game, captain Virat Kohli said he hoped Sharma would be able to recover in time for this clash. Rishabh Pant is likely to remain sidelined after suffering a concussion in Mumbai when struck by the ball in the first ODI.

A third injury worry for the home side comes in the form of Sharma’s opening partner Shikhar Dhawan. The batsman was unable to field in the second ODI victory after being struck in the ribs by a Pat Cummins short ball on his way to making 96.

Australia don’t have the injury worries of their hosts and will be tempted to name an unchanged side as they look for a repeat of Mumbai

India vs Australia 3rd ODI – Betting Tips

The last time India and Australia contested an ODI at the stadium for Sunday’s series decider was in 2017. There are plenty of insights to draw from that match, which Australia won.

Bank on a big one from Kohli

The Indian captain has been preoccupied with the position of others in the batting order and will really need to focus on his own craft for this all-important decider. He scored 78 in the second ODI and, at his Indian Premier League home ground in Bengaluru, is backed to do well. If Sharma is absent, even more responsibility will sit with Kohli. He is often up for the big occasion. At 7.50 with Betway, Kohli is a good pick in the Man of the Match market.

Warner to wallop again

The hard-hitting Australian struck a superb century in the first ODI. He loves it at the top of the order with Aaron Finch, who also hit a ton in that match. The last time the Aussies were in Bengaluru for an ODI, Finch and Warner almost did the same. Warner hit 124 to Finch’s 94 then. Steven Smith is around, yes, backing Finch at 4.00 or Warner at 3.00 to be Australia’s top batsman is a good call.

India vs Australia 3rd ODI – Prediction

More or less this time last year, Australia were in the process of wrapping up a three-two ODI series win over India in India. The tourists’ team has evolved a bit since, but the core has also stayed the same. They will have their work cut out for them against proud opposition who don’t want to lose on home soil. The Aussies should sneak this one to cap a truly entertaining series.
